iberostar daiquiri in cayo coco, cuba 2004
in april 2004 nikki and i took a trip to cayo coco in cuba. we stayed at the iberostar daiquiri resort. the resort was actually located in cayo guillermo. it was an all-inclusive resort which had received a lot of great reviews and was very well priced. we were able to get our vacation for under $1,000 each. that's an amazing price considering places in the mayan riviera were asking $2,100 for the same week.
here are the pics from our trip:
cayo coco is an island located off the north coast of cuba and offers some of the most spectacular beaches in the world. pinar beach is rated as one of the top 5 beaches in the world and is untouched by development.
the iberostar daiquiri was rated as a 4-star resort and was worth every penny. while it did not have the 5-star quality like some of the other resorts we've been to, the price could not be beat. the weather was outstanding, the beach was beautiful and the resort area was gorgeous. the food was surprisingly good with many choices. there were only 2 a la carte restaurants but the buffet offered a great selection every night. the only thing we took issue with was the expectation of tips from resort workers. it seemed that everyone wanted a tip for doing their job. this was one of the main differences we noticed between the 5-star places we've been to before. also - none of the rooms had any queen or king sized beds which is apparently quite common for resorts in cuba.
if you're looking for an affordable getaway and can book at the last minute then i highly recommend this resort. if you do go - make sure you bring a cooler mug for your beverages as the drink cups supplied at the bars are VERY small. they will gladly fill any portable mug for you... if you tip them. we saw one guy with a 60oz Tim Hortons pitcher - brilliant. that guy was thinking ahead. if you have any questions - don't hesitate to ask us about the tip.

cuba
cuba is an excellent place to visit for a very affordable price. the beaches on the north coast are spectacular with white sand and turquoise water. some of the most beautiful beaches are located in cuba. there is alos some amazing scuba diving off the coast comparable to the great barrier reef in australia. cuba is also renowned for it's top quality cigars and great rum. it's always good to bring some rum and cigars to enjoy at home and remind you of your trip.
